Sport Club Corinthians Paulista
One of the most popular clubs in Brazil, with one of the largest fan bases in the country. Founded by a group of workers in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, in São Paulo.
History
Corinthians was founded on September 1, 1910 by a group of friends inspired by the tour of the English team Corinthian Football Club to Brazil. The club quickly became one of the biggest forces in Paulista and national football. Throughout the 20th century, Corinthians experienced moments of glory and remarkable droughts, such as the 23-year trophy drought between 1954 and 1977, which ended with the conquest of the 1977 Campeonato Paulista in a memorable match against Ponte Preta. In the 2000s, the club faced financial difficulties and was even relegated to Serie B in 2007, returning in the following season. From 2009 onwards, with new management, Corinthians became a protagonist again, winning the Libertadores and the Club World Cup in 2012. The club is recognized for its passionate fans, the Fiel, considered one of the largest organized fan groups in the world, and for its historic rivalry with Palmeiras, São Paulo and Santos.
