History
Founded in 1905 in the Aflitos neighborhood, Sport Club do Recife is one of the oldest clubs in Brazilian football, with strong tradition in the Northeast. The club's peak came in 2008, when it won the Brazilian Championship under coach Renê Simões, an unprecedented feat for a Pernambuco team. The Lion of the Island also holds significant state titles and alternates participation between the first and second national divisions over the past decades.
