History

Sport Huancayo was founded in the city of Huancayo, in the central highlands of Peru, and over decades established itself as the main representative of the Junín region in Peruvian professional football. The club rose to the Peruvian first division on various occasions, alternating seasons in the elite with periods in the second division, always counting on strong support from local fans due to the unique altitude and climate of Huancayo, factors that make the stadium a difficult stronghold for visiting teams. In the 2010s and 2020s, Sport Huancayo established itself as a stable team in Liga 1, competing in continental tournaments such as the Copa Sudamericana on some occasions.
