History
The 2008 Copa do Brasil conquest is one of the greatest achievements in Sport Recife's history. In the final against Corinthians, who were competing in Serie B that year after being relegated in 2007, the Lion won 2-0 at Ilha do Retiro. In the second leg, in São Paulo, Corinthians won 3-1. The aggregate score was 3-3 and Sport was declared champions by the away goals rule. The title was the club's first in the Copa do Brasil and secured a place in the 2009 Copa Libertadores. The campaign helped strengthen Sport's image as one of the main forces in northeastern football.
