Sport Club do Recife

Sport Club do Recife is the most popular club in Pernambuco and one of the most traditional in northeastern football. Founded in 1905, it carries the passion of the Pernambuco people in its red and black colors. It is the only northeastern club to win the Brazilian Championship.

History

Sport was founded by British and Brazilian students in Recife and quickly became the heartbeat club of the Pernambuco people. It won the Brazilian Championship in 1987, the only national title for a northeastern club until then, under the command of coach Gustavo Antonetti. The club is a six-time Pernambuco champion and has a long tradition in regional competitions. Its Ilha do Retiro is one of the most traditional stadiums in Brazil.
