History

Sporting Clube de Braga was founded in 1921 in the city of Braga, in northern Portugal, and became known as 'Arsenalista' for adopting the red uniform inspired by English Arsenal, following a trip by club directors to London in the 1930s. The club's B team exists as a training and transition structure, receiving young players from youth categories and professional players seeking match rhythm. The model follows the logic adopted by other major Portuguese clubs, such as Benfica, Porto, and Sporting CP, which also maintain B teams in lower divisions. Braga B began competing in professional Portuguese football competitions, including the second national division, where it faced clubs from across the country and served as a showcase for young players promoted to the main team. Several players developed or refined in this structure reached Braga's main team and, subsequently, clubs abroad and national teams, reinforcing the relevance of the club's training project. Estádio 1.º de Maio, the former home of the main team before the construction of Estádio Municipal de Braga for Euro 2004, began hosting matches for the B team and youth categories.
