History

St Mirren Football Club was founded in 1877 in Paisley, near Glasgow. For over a century, it played its home matches at Love Street, before moving in 2009 to the current stadium, with a capacity of around 8,000 fans. The club won the Scottish Cup in 1926, 1959 and 1987. In the 1987 final, it defeated Dundee United 1-0 in extra time, one of the most remembered moments in the club's history. In 2013, St Mirren won the Scottish League Cup by beating Hearts 3-2 in the final, the most recent title among the club's major national trophies. St Mirren was also champion of the Scottish second division in 1977, 2000, 2006 and 2018, which reinforces the trajectory of ups and downs between the country's two main divisions.
