FCSB / Steaua București
Steaua București, currently known as FCSB, is Romania's most successful club and the country's sole European Cup champion. Founded in 1947 as the Romanian Army club, Steaua dominated domestic football and reached the pinnacle of Europe in the 1980s. The National Arena, Romania's national stadium, currently serves as the club's home ground.
History
Steaua București won the European Cup in 1986, defeating Barcelona on penalties in Seville, becoming the first club from Eastern Europe to win the tournament. The club also reached the final in 1989, being defeated by Sacchi's Milan. On the domestic front, Steaua dominated Romanian football for decades, winning dozens of titles. A legal dispute over the use of the name and symbols led to the current FCSB, while a rival club claims the historic Steaua name.
