History

Swindon Town was founded in 1879 and adopted its current name in 1883. It has played at County Ground since the late 19th century and is known as The Robins, a nickname linked to the red and white colors of the uniform. The club's greatest title came in the 1968–69 season, when it won the English League Cup by beating Arsenal 3–1 after extra time at Wembley, with two goals from Don Rogers. In 1970, Swindon also won the Anglo-Italian Cup by defeating Napoli in the final. In the 1990s, under player-manager Glenn Hoddle, the club rose to the top of English football in 1993 after beating Leicester City 4–3 in the playoff final. On its debut in the Premier League in 1993–94, the team finished in last place and was relegated. In 1990, Swindon had won a promotion playoff, but lost its promotion due to financial irregularities. The club was also champion of the fourth division in 1985–86, the second division in 1995–96, and League Two in 2011–12.
