Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise is one of Belgium's most traditional clubs, returning to the elite of Belgian football in the 2020s after decades in lower divisions.

History

Founded in 1897 in Saint-Gilles, a suburb of Brussels, Union was one of the most dominant clubs in Belgian football in the first half of the twentieth century, winning multiple national titles. After a long period of decline, spending decades outside the first division, the club was acquired by new investors in the 2010s, which drove its sporting and financial restructuring. The return to the Jupiler Pro League in 2021 marked the beginning of a new era of success, with the club competing again for national titles and participating in European competitions.
