History
Universitatea Craiova was founded in 1947 as a student club of Craiova University, quickly establishing itself as a powerhouse of Romanian football. It became one of the dominant forces of the Romanian First League, winning three championship titles in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. The club regularly participated in continental competitions such as the European Champions League, achieving its greatest glories in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Its stadium, Ion Oblemenco, is one of the most modern in Eastern Europe with a capacity of almost 30,000 spectators. The institution maintains a passionate fan base and continues to be competitive in the Romanian first division.
