Urawa Red Diamonds
Urawa Red Diamonds is one of the most traditional and popular clubs in Japanese football, with a passionate and fervent fan base considered the largest in the country. Founded in 1950 as Mitsubishi Motors' company team, the club became one of the pillars of the J1 League since its creation. Its stadium, the Saitama Stadium 2002, is Japan's largest football field.
History
The club won three J1 League titles and became an Asian powerhouse by winning the AFC Champions League in 2007 and 2017. The team participated in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2007, finishing third after defeating Iran's Sepahan. With an estimated fan base of over 1.5 million people, Urawa is frequently called 'Japan's Barcelona'. In recent years, the club has maintained its competitiveness in the J1 League and Asian competitions.
