Valencia 2004

Valencia's Rafa Benítez side that won La Liga and the UEFA Cup in the 2003-04 season. It was one of the most solid Spanish teams of the 2000s.

History

Under the command of Rafa Benítez, who arrived at the club in 2001, Valencia regained prominence in Spanish football. The team had already won La Liga in 2001-02, and in the 2003-04 season repeated the national title with a campaign marked by defensive solidity. In the same season, the team won the UEFA Cup by beating Olympique de Marseille 2-0 in the final held in Gothenburg, with goals from Mista and Vicente. In August 2004, Valencia also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, defeating Porto 2-1. The squad brought together names like Santiago Cañizares in goal, Roberto Ayala in defense and Pablo Aimar in midfield creation. After the double in 2004, Benítez left the club to take over Liverpool, ending one of the most successful cycles in Valencia's recent history.
