Vasco da Gama 1958
Vasco da Gama in 1958 became Rio de Janeiro champion and saw three of its athletes, Bellini, Orlando and Vavá, win the World Cup in Sweden with the Brazilian National Team.
History
Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama was founded on August 21, 1898, in Rio de Janeiro, by rowers connected to the Portuguese community. The club became one of the greats of Brazilian football and inaugurated São Januário Stadium in 1927. In 1958, Vasco won the Carioca Championship, one of the country's main tournaments at that time. The team that year brought together players of national team level, including center-back and captain Bellini, center-back Orlando Peçanha, and striker Vavá. That same year, the three became world champions with Brazil in Sweden. Bellini was the captain who lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy, and Vavá scored two goals in the final against the hosts. This group is part of Vasco's legacy as a club that developed and supplied world champions.
