History

Founded on May 4, 1892 in the city of Arnhem, SBV Vitesse is one of the historic clubs of Dutch football. Over more than 130 years of existence, the club alternated between periods in the top flight and lower divisions of the Dutch league, always maintaining a strong identity linked to the city of Arnhem. The GelreDome, inaugurated in 1998, became one of the most modern stadiums in Europe, with a capacity of around 26,000 spectators and an innovative retractable pitch on rails. The arena was pioneering in this technology in world football and served as inspiration for similar projects in other countries. In recent decades, Vitesse maintained regular presence in the Eredivisie and participated in European competitions, including the UEFA Europa League. The club became known for receiving young talents loaned by major European clubs, such as Chelsea, in partnership agreements that benefited developing players. The KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) title in 2017 represents the greatest achievement in the club's history.
