Wolfsberger AC

Austrian club founded in 1904, based in the city of Wolfsberg, in the Carinthia region. It became known internationally after notable European campaigns in the Europa League from 2020 onwards.

History

Wolfsberger AC was founded in 1904 in the small city of Wolfsberg, in the Austrian state of Carinthia, and spent most of its history competing in regional divisions and Austria's second national division. The club consistently reached the Austrian Bundesliga from the 2010s onwards, surprising by establishing itself among the competitive teams of the national championship, despite representing one of the smallest cities among the country's elite clubs. The club's greatest international highlight in recent history occurred in the group stage of the 2020-21 Europa League, when Wolfsberger AC surprised England's Tottenham Hotspur with an away victory, a result that resonated widely in European sports media. Currently, the club plays its home matches at Lavanttal Arena and remains one of the traditional teams in Austrian football outside the Vienna-Salzburg axis.
