Club founded in 1945 by workers of the Volkswagen factory, with which it maintains historical ties. Champion of the Bundesliga in 2009 and semifinalist of the Champions League in 2015-16, Wolfsburg is also a world power in women's football, with multiple titles in the women's Champions League.

History

VfL Wolfsburg was founded on September 12, 1945 as a recreational association for workers of the Volkswagen factory. Volkswagen's increasing revenue enabled investments that culminated in the club's greatest title: the 2008-09 Bundesliga, with Edin Džeko and Grafite as top scorers. In 2015-16, it reached the Champions League semifinals. The women's team became one of the greatest in the world, winning the women's Champions League and dominating German football for over a decade.
