History

Founded in 1877, Wolverhampton won three First Division titles between 1954 and 1959, a period when Stan Cullis led one of Europe's strongest teams. Wolves matches against Hungarian and Soviet clubs in the 1950s were broadcast on television and generated so much buzz that UEFA created the Champions Cup in 1955. After decades in lower divisions, the club returned to the Premier League in 2018 with strong Portuguese investment, including Rúben Neves and João Moutinho.
