History

Wycombe Wanderers was founded in 1887 by workers from the city's furniture industry, the origin of the nickname Chairboys (the boys of the chairs). In the 1990s, under the command of Martin O'Neill, the club won the Football Conference title in 1992-93, won the FA Trophy in 1991 and 1993 and reached the Football League. In 1994, it was promoted through the playoffs. In 2001, Wycombe, then in a lower division, reached the FA Cup semi-final and lost to Liverpool 2-1. In 2007, it reached the semi-final of the English League Cup, eliminated by Chelsea. In 2020, it defeated Oxford United 2-1 in the League One playoff final at Wembley, and secured the first-ever promotion in the club's history to the English second division (Championship).
