Yokohama F. Marinos
Yokohama F. Marinos is one of Japan's most traditional clubs, based in the country's second-largest city. Founded in 1972 by Nissan Motors, the club underwent a historic merger with Yokohama Flügels in 1999, adopting the 'F' in tribute to the defunct club. In recent years, under the influence of the City Football Group, the team adopted an offensive and dynamic style of play that captivated Japanese football.
History
The club won four J1 League titles, two of them in 2003 and 2004, a period considered the team's golden era. In 2019, Yokohama Marinos won the national championship impressively, with high-intensity and pressing football implemented by Australian coach Ange Postecoglou. The partnership with City Football Group brought investments, modern methodology, and connection with Manchester City. The Nissan Stadium, with a capacity of over 72,000 people, is Japan's largest stadium.
