Atlético Ypiranga Club
One of the founding clubs of the Paulista Football League in 1901, Atlético Ypiranga was a protagonist in the early years of organized football in the city of São Paulo, alongside associations such as São Paulo Athletic Club and Mackenzie College.
History
Founded in the late 19th century, Atlético Ypiranga was part of a small group of clubs that, in 1901, created the Paulista Football League, the first entity to organize football in the state of São Paulo and predecessor of the current São Paulo Football Federation. In this initial phase, Paulista football was disputed almost exclusively by clubs linked to foreign colonies and local elites. Ypiranga competed in the first Paulista championships against clubs such as São Paulo Athletic Club, Germania (current Pinheiros), Mackenzie College and Clube Atlético Internacional, in an amateur context prior to the founding of São Paulo Football Club and the popularization of the sport among other sectors of society. With the professionalization of Paulista football in the following decades and the growth of larger clubs, Atlético Ypiranga could not resist and ended its activities, remaining today only as a historical record of the pioneering period of football in São Paulo.
