Gigi Riva is the greatest all-time goalscorer of the Italian national team, with 35 goals in 42 matches, a record that stood for decades. Spending his entire professional career at Cagliari — refusing bigger clubs — he led the modest Sardinian club to its only national title in 1970. A national idol, he participated in the 1970 World Cup where Italy reached the final.
